Legacy

Legacy

Legacy, supporting the families of our veterans.

We are there for the partners and the children of those who gave their lives or their health for our country.

We provide the essential social, financial and developmental support that these families depend on each day.

MELBOURNE LEGACY PROGRAMS & SERVICES

Today, Legacy supports 43,000 partners and children of veterans who gave their lives or health serving our country.

Our work can mean a child gets an education and a fair go, a widow is not disadvantaged and alone and a family is not torn apart by the effects of Post-Traumatic Stress or other physiological injuries.

Since the Legacy promise was made by a soldier to his dying mate in the trenches of WW1 to "look after the missus and the kids", Legacy has supported Australian Defence Force families in times of great need.

Legacy provides a broad range of assistance and advice including:

Melbourne Personal counselling.
Melbourne Local suburban Widows' Clubs providing social activities and member's support.
Melbourne Assistance with applications for pension entitlements.
Melbourne Assistance with the upbringing and education of children.
Melbourne Annual holiday camps for dependants.
Melbourne Financial assistance in necessitous cases.
Melbourne Help with welfare matters.
Melbourne Help with legal issues.
Melbourne Recreational outings.

The Shrine of Remembrance

The Legacy Olive Tree has been relocated to take up a prime position at the Shrine of Remembrance, Melbourne.

A giant 300-tonne crane began its delicate task of uplifting the historical tree on 18th November 2002. The Legacy Olive Tree was initially planted on 7th October 1973 to mark 50 years of Legacy's service.

LEGACY WEEK BADGE APPEAL

Each year Legacy makes one major appeal to the public for financial support - during the Legacy Week Badge Appeal.

The proceeds that Legacy receives will be directed to the essential role Legacy plays in the community through the provision of services ranging from general welfare, counselling to practical assistance to those in necessitous circumstances.

Legacy receives no regular financial support from Government but relies on donations, bequests and the proceeds from the annual Badge Day Appeal.
