Port Adelaide Football Club was established in 1870 and the oldest senior football club in South Australia.
The club's senior team plays in the Australian Football League (Power) with its reserves team in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) - (Magpies).
Port Adelaide Football Club has won 36 SANFL premierships, 4 Championship of Australia titles and one AFL Premiership in 2004.
It was a founding member of the South Australian Football Association (now SANFL) and became the only pre-existing state league from outside Victoria to join the Australian Football League in 1997.
It is the fifth-oldest club in the AFL.
Port Adelaide has an intense rivalry with the Adelaide Crows; a fixture referred to as the 'Showdown'. Port Adelaide first adopted the colours black and white in 1902, with their 'Prison Bar' guernsey. Following its entry to the AFL, the club adopted the colours of teal and silver, in order to differentiate it from Collingwood.
Port Adelaide played its first AFL premiership match against Collingwood at the MCG on 9 March 1997 (79-point defeat). It won its first AFL game in round 3 against Geelong, and defeated cross town rivals and eventual premiers Adelaide by 11 points in the first Showdown in round 4.

2004 AFL Premiers
Port Adelaide won their first six matches, lost the next three and then only lose one more game for the rest of the year. It won its qualifying final against Geelong and preliminary final against St Kilda. In the grand final against Brisbane Lions, it led by 15 points at quarter time, one point at half time. 17 points in the third quarter, dominating in the final term to win by 40 points: 17.11 (113) to 10.13 (73).
Byron Pickett was awarded with the Norm Smith Medal (Best on ground) - 20 disposals and kicking three goals.
Brownlow Medal
Ollie Wines became Port Adelaide's first Brownlow medal winner in 2021.
Ground
The club has played at Alberton Oval since 1880 and has used their AFL home ground, Adelaide Oval since 2014.
