These Tours and other events are being held at Dunluce to share its amazing history and bring in revenue for all the expensive preservation projects.

With the help of the community this structure can be maintained and enjoyed for generations to come.

Session includes a lovely traditional Devonshire Tea.

Explore the historical mansion in a fascinating tour, and join current homeowner, artist, blacksmith, castle restorer, and passionate property researcher, Sarah Tinney, as she shares her more than 19 years of hands-on experience.

The tour kicks off with a luxurious high tea, with scones, jam and cream served on antique china. For those not partial to tea, freshly ground coffee is also available. Then over the two-hour experience, learn from Sarah about the captivating history of the house and the Holdfast Bay area. Conclude by stepping back in time and exploring the property.

"My husband used to pedal his bike past the castle in the early 70s and always used to go out of his way to pedal past after sailing," says Sarah when explaining how the castle came into her hands. "He always thought to himself I'm going to own that house one day... He surprised me at a BBQ party of all places, telling me he'd bought it. So really, I had nothing to do with the purchasing of it. It was always his dream."

The land for Dunluce Castle was originally purchased from the Catholic Church just after the turn of the century by Reverend Alexander Macully. Building commenced in 1904, with Dunluce being inhabited as early as 1910. The intricate design of the building was based on The Dunluce Castle in Northern Ireland, which dates back to medieval times.

These days Dunluce is a family home, owned proudly by the Tinneys since 2005. While over the last century some renovations have refreshed Dunluce to make it possible to run the building as a functional family residence, much of the home is in its original state.

"We started opening the house to visitors as soon as we moved in during History Month. In 2017 there was so much work that needed to be done to the roof and there was storm damage, so I decided to continue to do tours throughout the year and see how many people were interested, luckily it just took off."

By touring the castle not only are you treating yourself to a fountain of untapped knowledge, but also contributing to the preservation of a Historically Listed Building. The tours and events held at Dunluce help to share its amazing history and bring in revenue for all the expensive preservation projects. With the help of the community, this structure can be maintained and enjoyed for generations to come.
