Historic Edithburgh Hotel reopens, bringing back good old-fashioned hospitality to Yorke Peninsula
In a bid to rejuvenate South Australia's historic Edithburgh Hotel, the esteemed hospitality team behind Ventureholics has taken the reins, vowing to breathe new life into the iconic establishment. Closed briefly for kitchen upgrades, the Edithburgh Hotel officially reopened its doors on December 26th, just in time for the summer season.
The Edithburgh Hotel, a charming coastal gem nestled in Edithburgh on the Yorke Peninsula, boasts a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1878. The hotel has remained operational throughout the years, serving as a beloved destination for both locals and tourists seeking a taste of traditional South Australian hospitality.
Owners Zoe and Oksana alongside business support Nathan are the passionate trio at the helm of Ventureholics, bring a wealth of experience in the hospitality industry to their latest venture.
"We're very proud of what we've done so far. We want to bring good old hospitality back to the forefront and teach a new generation what [a pub] is truly meant to be," Zoe says.
Their journey began in the Melbourne hospitality scene, we they worked across a wide range of restaurants, bars and catering, before opening The Old Bakehouse Tavern.
They have successfully managed The Old Bakehouse Tavern in Williamstown, Barossa Valley, for nearly two years now. It was originally a bakery dating back to yesteryears, which has been transformed into a thriving dining and drinking establishment known for its seasonal menu and extensive selection of wines, beers, and cocktails.
Ventureholics has a strong track record of identifying hidden gems and nurturing them to greatness.
"We're good at what we do and we try to find these little gems around Australia and give them the TLC that they deserve," Oksana says.
Their love for crafting exceptional dining experiences is evident in their dedication to creating unique menus from scratch, including homemade pasta and breadcrumbs. The team's mission is clear: revive the essence of genuine hospitality and uphold the tradition of outstanding food and service.
Edithburgh's coastal beauty, reminiscent of their previous residence near the water, served as a compelling lure for married couple Nathan and Oksana as well as Zoe who is originally from Lavers Hill. The stunning seaside location of Edithburgh Hotel made it the perfect setting for their latest endeavour.
The team strongly believes in a blend of work and lifestyle, and Edithburgh provides the ideal backdrop.
The warm Edithburgh community has welcomed the team with open arms, and plans are already in motion to collaborate on various local events.
Among the highlights at Edithburgh Hotel is the newly revamped beer garden, featuring bespoke furniture crafted from wine barrels by a local artisan, similar to the one at the Old Bakehouse Tavern.
This spacious outdoor area is perfect for summer and offers room for live music performances. The venue is licensed for up to 200 patrons, promising an exciting array of events in the near future including live music which has already been scheduled for various dates.
As for the food offerings, Edithburgh Hotel boasts a menu that includes signature dishes such as the towering "Edith Burger" with lightly battered bug tails, prawns, calamari, scallops, grilled pineapple, and cocktail sauce served on a toasted brioche bun.
The seafood pie is another house specialty, prepared with barramundi, salmon, prawns, and scallops in mornay sauce. Of course, the ever-popular schnitzels, hand-crumbed with a handmade mushroom sauce (which apparently is so good people drink it up), also make an appearance, carrying forward the beloved recipe from The Old Bakehouse Tavern.
As Oksana proudly states, "We've built our reputation on schnitzels at the tavern, and we're bringing that same recipe here - as well as the love and labor that goes in."
With plans to expand and establish a network of quality pubs under the Ventureholics banner, the Edithburgh Hotel marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the team's journey.
The goal is to elevate these venues while celebrating the rich history of South Australian hospitality.
